Drawbridge
Drawbridge ascends
Chains clatter like ancient fangs
Iron groans against the gale
Stirring the moat’s dark glass beneath
Hands that reach
From shadowed banks
Collide with timber’s adamantine flesh
Each plank proclaims: enough
Each rope: a resolute No
Reminding them
That passage is conferred
Never presumed
I stand
Atop the turret
Lantern in grasp
Light quivers across
My skin’s battlements
Sovereign in the chasm
Between intrusion
And sanctum
No shadow trespasses
Without my sanction
No footsteps are received
Without my assent
The world lingers
On the other side
Patient, courteous
Or obliterated
This is my threshold
More than a suggestion
A fulcrum
Of consequence

Worldwide Anticlimactic Collapse
No bang
No sirens
No headline
No operatic fall
From a glass tower
Mirrors go mute
Reflections unionize
Spotlight forgets the name
Forgets why it cared
A face leans in
Nothing leans back
Applause evaporates
Echo becomes extinct
Attention—regulated, rationed
Locked behind intention
Influencers
Post—post—post
Into the void
Algorithm blinks
Looks away
Tired of clapping
Charisma grows heavy
Masks itch without witnesses
Charm turns into dead language
No one bothers to translate
Gaslight bulbs burn out, one by one
Rooms fill with a new invention:
Clarity
People say
No
And the sky
Does not fall
People say
I don’t believe you
And the earth
Keeps spinning, bored
Power structures wobble
Exposed as mere volume
Fear as an unpaid intern
Titles begin to tremble
Posture collapses
Into posture check
Authority trips
And no one catches it
Shame knocks
Awkward, overdressed
Some let it in, sit down
Learn how to breathe
Others barricade the door
Write manifestos
Call humility a conspiracy
Collapse
Has no climax
No montage
No slow motion
It is tedious
Endless
Unshareable
No villains slain
No heroes raised
Just backs turned in unison
Refresh, refresh, refresh
Refresh, refresh
Refresh
Still nothing
A collective yawn
Heard across continents
The beast starves
On a crash diet
Of disinterest
Dying dull
And somewhere
Unnoticed
The air clears
Those trained
In the art of quietude
Don’t celebrate
They simply continue
Walking
Unimpressed
Unhooked
Mirrors stay empty
Noise expires naturally
And the world
For the first time in a while
Doesn’t need
To look at itself
To exist

Having a Ball: The Good Times Roll
Buzzing neon
Lacquered lanes
Hall of spin and chance
We gather
In rented shoes
Fingers burrowing
Into shared gravity
The ball, an onyx planet
Orbits the wrist, then sails
Pins erupt
Into ivory applause
Low thunder elegy
Or stubbornly linger
On the varnished horizon
Laughter ricochets
Frames accrue
Into small triumphs
Names flicker
On the luminous ledger
Even
In the gutter
We find it:
The joy
Of rolling
True

Contradicit Gravitas
In the heart
Of a dusty garage
Grease spots riddled the floor
As scattered memories
He labored
Hands stained black
With the oil of dreams
The rocket, his creation—
Product of midnight thoughts
That dared him to defy gravity
Hulking beast of bronze and iron
Sinews of pipes, veins of wire
Patchwork dream of a visionary
Born of spare parts, raw ingenuity
Conceived in whimsy
Control panels gleamed
Altars to the dogs of industry
Knobs the size of fists, gauges whirring
Dials twitching with frantic energy
Brass levers jutting from the console
Beckoning his hands to grip, to pull, to trust
Each switch, an unknown spell
Each button, a promise told by the cosmos
On the steel mouth of the ship
Engraved in copper filigree:
Contradicit Gravitas
Fear had once wrapped him
In a cloak of leaden atrophy
Weighing down his shoulders
But now, as kerosene shimmered in the tanks
Liquid fire encased in glass
He knew this was no place
For fear
Hiss of ignition
Garage flooded with light—
Not the soft glow of an earthly flame
But the fierce birth of a star
Heat licked at his skin
The rocket trembled
Heart stirring
From a deep sleep
He ascended
Climbing, always climbing
Through the veil of atmosphere
Heavens pierced
By the ship's metal scream
Until the stars bloomed before him
Ancient, cold, yet welcoming
His rocket
Cut the night
Mechanical sword thrust
Into the endless black
Where silence pressed in
Thick as tar
And there, in the quiet
He felt it—
The steady confidence
Of a soul unchained
For space was no void
But a kingdom awaiting its heir
And he, once cowering
Beneath his doubts
Now

With the certainty
Of one who had dared
To build wings
From the wreckage of the world
No longer bound by fear
He gazed upon galaxies
And they, in turn
Gazed back
